Seems like so much time has passed since our Mexican adventure in June, but better late than never, right?! Jason and I started off in Miami with a five-hour layover. We took advantage and cabbed it to South Beach for lunch {insert Will Smith song here}. I would love to go back and spend a long weekend there. The beach is huge and all of the retro hotels/bars/restaurants looked very fun. Then we were on to Mexico...
We stayed at an all-inclusive resort in the small town of Puerto Aventuras. This was about an hour and a half south of Cancun in the Mayan Riviera. The resort itself did not leave a great first impression, but Jason and I weren't willing to break the bank on this vacation either. The resort did have a fun atmosphere and plenty to do during the day and at night, so it wasn't a complete disappointment. They showed movies on the beach each evening which was fun. Jason and I might even try this in our own backyard! Nothing like watching a movie on a big screen (can you believe this? might be stretching it a tad.) lying on a lounge chair under the stars. :)
We spent one day away from the resort visiting the Mayan ruins in Tulum and then on to Xel-Ha, an ecological water park. The ruins, of course, did not disappoint and looked like several large piles of rocks - very historical and cool rocks, mind you. ;) Tulum sits up on a large cliff that overlooks the ocean. The water there was the most gorgeous turquoise blue I've ever seen. Amazing. Xel-Ha was a fun and unique place. We grabbed a tube and floated along a natural lazy river. We saw tons of fish, walked across a floating bridge, and enjoyed food and beverages too. We had several hours to wander around and check everything out before returning to the resort. It was so nice to be far away from the daily grind for a while. And the scenery wasn't too shabby either! ;) Overall, we really did have a great time.

Hey Kim,
Kyle and I went to Tulum and Xel Ha on our honeymoon. We got the worst sunburns at Xwl Ha since you couldn't use real sunscreen there!
Sounds like you are well!
Love,
Rebecca
